A casual inquiry into the rise of female fandom in American collegiate and professional football leads a liberal-minded observer on a journey of discovery of the game that has traditionally and philosophically been anti-female in its approach to athletic competition. He now sees that football has become the very game that women have not only supported and challenged; they are procuring professions within the sport while aggressively making inroads onto the field as players and coaches.
To understand this evolution, the observer will have to confront the collective and personal factors of the patriarchal male-centeredness which holds the view that women are no more than passive spectators to the realization that women bring not only the qualities of heart and soul but a fierceness and knowledge of the game that would make any of the deified coaches of the past shed a tear.
